During a meeting with Academicians of Academia Sinica on July 2, Deputy Prime Minister Li-Chun Cheng addressed concerns regarding electricity supply in Taiwan, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of nuclear waste before discussing the use of nuclear energy. Cheng reassured the public that under the energy transition plan implemented during the past 8 years, there would be no power shortage by 2030, with over 10% of the energy coming from renewable sources. The government aims to continue towards a non-nuclear homeland, focusing on developing diverse green energy sources and reducing carbon emissions, while enhancing energy resilience and grid stability to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
