On June 11, 2024, at 9:05 a.m., the intertidal zone of Xiao Liuqiu. The Pingtung County Government will no longer offer free access to the popular summer destination 'Xiao Liuqiu' for swimming and snorkeling starting from July. In an effort to sustainably manage natural ecological resources and enhance public conservation awareness, a tourist conservation fee of NT$60 will be implemented in certain areas, with 'Trochus' and 'Coral' designated as conservation species. Various conservation measures are being implemented due to the increasing number of tourists visiting Xiao Liuqiu. The fee will be applied in three intertidal areas starting from July 1, with additional conservation efforts focusing on removing certain types of sea urchins that impact intertidal vegetation. Moreover, the government requires professional guides for entry to the ecological landscape areas and has partnered with 7-ELEVEN ibon for ticket sales, with exemptions for Xiao Liuqiu residents, children under 3, individuals with disabilities, and their accompanying person.
