Lung cancer is no longer exclusive to heavy smokers or elderly individuals. A 36-year-old non-smoker and non-drinker, Mr. Zhang, was diagnosed with stage IV lung adenocarcinoma with brain metastasis after experiencing cough and breathing difficulties for a month. Traditional chemotherapy only offered a limited survival time, but with the encouragement of Dr. Xia, Mr. Zhang used next-generation gene sequencing to choose the correct oral targeted therapy drug, leading to a dramatic improvement in his condition. After 2 years and 6 months of treatment, Mr. Zhang has successfully returned to normal life. The availability of targeted therapy drugs in Taiwan and the implementation of next-generation gene sequencing by the National Health Insurance Administration have facilitated more effective and personalized treatment plans for cancer patients.
