North Korea has recently been launching multiple rounds of 'garbage balloons' towards South Korea, with the third wave initiated on the evening of June 8th. In response, South Korea's Defense Minister ordered the military to be on duty on the 9th. Tensions between the two Koreas have been heightened, with North Korea retaliating against South Korean civic groups distributing anti-communist leaflets by sending balloons filled with trash twice before, and now again despite previous claims to halt. The situation has led to the recall of soldiers for work, sparking some dissatisfaction among the personnel. The escalating balloon exchanges are part of the ongoing strained relations between the two nations.
