Reported about 1 year ago
On June 11, 2024, at 8:13 am, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed that around 20 North Korean military personnel briefly crossed 50 meters into the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between the two Koreas on June 9 around 12:30 pm. South Korean forces immediately broadcast warnings and carried out warning shots, leading the North Koreans to retreat. It was speculated that the North Korean personnel may have mistakenly crossed due to overgrown vegetation along the border. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have been escalating, with North Korea sending propaganda balloons and South Korea responding in kind. South Korea also resumed border loudspeaker broadcasts aimed at North Korea. Experts suggest that the delay in reporting the border crossing incident by South Korea may be to prevent further deteriorating relations with North Korea.
