North Korean Soldier Crosses Border for the 3rd Time This Month, Withdraws After Warning Shots by South Korean Military

Reported 8 months ago

On June 18, 2024, the South Korean Ministry of National Defense released photos showing North Korean soldiers near the border engaging in activities and construction. The South Korean military stated that several North Korean soldiers crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) yesterday, prompting warning shots from the South Korean soldiers before the North Korean soldiers retreated. This marks the third incident this month, attributed to ongoing North Korean construction activities near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) where overgrown vegetation may obstruct the boundary markers. The North Korean soldiers quickly retreated upon warning in all incidents, interpreted by the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff as accidental crossings rather than deliberate provocations.
