With the Dragon Boat Festival approaching in Taiwan, discussions about the differences between 'North Zongzi' and 'South Zongzi' have sparked debates among netizens. The main distinctions lie in the ingredients and cooking methods: 'North Zongzi' uses partially cooked rice mixed with sauce before being fully steamed with ingredients like pork, dried tofu, bamboo shoots, eggs, mushrooms, and dried shrimp, resulting in a rich and chewy texture, while 'South Zongzi' wraps fully cooked ingredients with soaked white glutinous rice before boiling in water with different fillings like lean meat, pork belly, mushrooms, egg yolks, and scallions, making for lighter flavors. Some 'South Zongzi' even pre-fry the rice to enhance the fragrance, resembling a blend of both the northern and southern methods.
