Defending champion Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the French Open before the quarter-final match due to a knee injury. Djokovic, who was aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title, had blamed the clay court conditions for aggravating the problem, later diagnosed as a torn medial meniscus. This withdrawal means Djokovic will lose his world number one ranking and raises doubts about his participation in Wimbledon. The injury also jeopardizes his ambition to win an Olympic gold at Paris 2024.
