NTSB calls for new controller training post near disaster

Reported 6 months ago

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is advocating for enhanced training for air traffic controllers following a near-collision in February 2023 in Austin, Texas, between a FedEx plane and a Southwest Airlines jet. The incident, where the two planes came within about 170 feet of each other in poor visibility conditions, has raised concerns about U.S. aviation safety and the strain on understaffed air traffic control. The NTSB recommends additional training for controllers in low visibility situations and better communication between controllers and flight crews.
