According to Reuters on July 1, 2024, French authorities are reportedly launching an investigation into Nvidia for potential anticompetitive behavior, following a surprise inspection on graphics cards in September 2023. French regulators expressed concerns that Nvidia's CUDA technology creates a reliance in the industry, leading to a risk of chip suppliers abusing power, especially in the rapidly growing AI chip market. Nvidia may face fines up to 10% of its global annual revenue if found in violation of French antitrust laws. The US Department of Justice is also reportedly preparing to investigate Nvidia in collaboration with the Federal Trade Commission, amidst increasing scrutiny in both Europe and the US due to the rising demand for AI chips and the release of ChatGPT.
