Ocean rates surge to year-to-date highs

Reported 6 months ago

Ocean spot rates are nearing or surpassing February peaks as a result of recent factors exacerbating the impacts of earlier incidents in the Red Sea, such as adverse weather in Asia, seasonal strength, and a shortage of oceangoing containers. This trend may disrupt international intermodal volume and benefit domestic intermodal carriers like J.B. Hunt, Hub Group, and Schneider. Publicly traded carriers showed increased bullishness in response to recent events, with some reporting higher pricing and reduced pressure from shippers to lower rates.
