During the opening ceremony of COMPUTEX this year on June 16, 2024, President Lai Ching-te declared Taiwan's ambitions to become an 'AI island' and drive AI integration across government agencies. The office of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), which organized COMPUTEX, has already revamped its office into an AI-powered workspace ahead of the curve. TAITRA's Chairman, Huang Chih-fang, mentioned that the office refurbishment project was planned as early as 2019, and accelerated during the pandemic, marking the completion of the council's digital transformation journey. Through the use of VR, metaverse, and AI data before exhibitions, TAITRA facilitated more precise engagement for international companies and buyers visiting Taiwan. The integration of AI in the office has significantly boosted the scale of participation and business opportunities at this year's COMPUTEX. While the pandemic impact minimized physical participation, initiatives such as online and virtual exhibitions, and the establishment of an innovation business center, laid the groundwork for future online trade activities, including the Taiwan Image Exhibition connecting over 60 trade offices worldwide in a virtual format.
