Rewilding Europe released eight European bison at Herdade do Vale Feitoso Estate in Portugal's Castelo Branco District, brought in from reserves in Poland to prevent wildfires and promote biodiversity in the 7,600-hectare area. The bison, reintroduced to the Iberian Peninsula after thousands of years, play a crucial role in managing vegetation, enhancing biodiversity, and supporting the climate and ecosystem. This rewilding initiative, part of the group's efforts in Europe, aims to observe how the bison adapt to their new habitat while offering ecotourism opportunities in the future.
