Okinawa Indoor Air Conditioning Temperature Controversy: Netizens Criticize for Being Overly Cool

Reported 12 months ago

In the midst of Taiwan's hot summer, the Taiwanese public often seeks relief in shopping malls and restaurants with air conditioning. However, to promote energy conservation, Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs Energy Bureau has set guidelines for indoor air conditioning temperatures not to fall below 26 degrees in various establishments. A netizen visiting Okinawa pointed out that despite the high temperatures there, public spaces have their air conditioning set quite low, with tour guides revealing that the Japanese prefer around 22 degrees. This sparked a debate online, with some criticizing the energy usage and comparing it to Taiwan's conservation efforts, while highlighting Japan's regulations maintaining temperatures between 17 to 28 degrees in work environments, including public spaces.
