On June 14, 2024, heavy rainfall hit Okinawa, leading the meteorological agency to issue a 'record-breaking short-time heavy rain warning' for parts of the region. Naha Airport was affected by thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain, pausing ground operations for about an hour, forcing some aircraft to temporarily stop on taxiways or circle in the air. The rain also caused rivers to flood and roads to be submerged. Various airlines such as All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, and Skymark Airlines had their ground staff evacuated due to lightning and heavy rain. Flights were delayed, with some aircraft circling in the air. Despite the weather delays, no flights were canceled. The weather instability continued, with strong rainfall in multiple areas, causing flooding and disruptions throughout Okinawa. Evacuation orders were issued to over 300,000 residents as a precautionary measure.
