Richard Carapaz, the Olympic champion from Ecuador, will not be able to defend his road cycling title at the Paris Olympics as Jhonatan Narváez secured the country's road cycling spot. Carapaz expressed his support for Narváez but mentioned the selection process favored his competitor. Despite calling for intervention from the sports ministry, the decision remained unchanged. Narváez, the winner of the Pan American Games road cycling race, has not publicly commented on the matter.
