In a significant market sell-off on August 5, 2024, numerous online brokerage firms, including Charles Schwab, Fidelity, and Vanguard, experienced outages affecting thousands of users. Reports peaked around 10 a.m. ET, with customers unable to log into their accounts or access balances. Schwab acknowledged technical difficulties but confirmed the issue was resolved by early afternoon, while Fidelity noted intermittent problems that were also addressed. Vanguard has yet to comment.
