OpenAI Acquires Real-time Analytics Database Provider Rockset to Accelerate AI Execution Efficiency

Reported about 1 year ago

OpenAI recently announced the acquisition of real-time analytics database provider Rockset, integrating Rockset's technology into OpenAI products to enhance AI execution efficiency. Although the acquisition amount was not disclosed, it is estimated to exceed $3.6 billion based on Rockset's market valuation. Founded in 2016 by former Facebook engineers Venkat Venkataramani, Tudor Bosman, and data architect Dhruba Borthakur, Rockset offers real-time indexing database services allowing developers to query semi-structured data using SQL to quickly retrieve valuable data from large datasets, thereby accelerating the execution efficiency of cloud-based applications. Following the acquisition, Rockset's technology will be integrated into OpenAI's products to improve data retrieval efficiency, ensuring faster utilization of data. This move is crucial for AI execution efficiency and will enhance OpenAI's database access efficiency in the future. Rockset will cease external services post-acquisition, requiring users who have not signed long-term agreements to migrate out by September 30th of the current year, no longer offering trial services or new subscriptions from the present time. For existing long-term users, Rockset will assist in migrating their services with flexibility regarding timelines.
