OpenAI is reinforcing its policy to block China's access to its artificial intelligence software, sending memos to Chinese developers about plans to enforce restrictions from July onwards. The move comes amid pressure from Washington to limit Chinese access to advanced AI technology, with OpenAI stating that accounts from regions not officially supported may be suspended. Chinese firms, including Alibaba and Tencent-backed Zhipu AI, are developing AI models to compete with US industry leaders like ChatGPT. The restrictions align with President Joe Biden's strategy to restrict Beijing's access to sensitive technologies like AI and chips, highlighting the ongoing tech competition between the US and China.
