Opposition Party Unlikely to Overthrow Cabinet: Su Hwuan-Chih: Motion of No Confidence in Presidential System Ineffective

Reported 8 months ago

In an interview with CTWANT, Su Hwuan-Chih, the convener of Taiwan Renewal, stated that the motion of no confidence when used in a presidential system is irrelevant. The opposition parties have the ability to pass a motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister, but in a presidential system, this would not have any impact on the President's power, as they can simply appoint a new Prime Minister without affecting their own authority. Su emphasized that the motion would only lead to a dissolution of the parliament and a re-election, which may not be advantageous for the opposition parties, making it unlikely for them to propose a motion of no confidence.
