The Mainland Affairs Council announced on June 27, 2024, to elevate mainland travel to an orange alert status. Insurance companies clarify that they only do not cover areas with a red alert and that individuals can still purchase travel insurance for areas under an orange alert. Different insurance companies may have varying underwriting measures for orange alerts, but in general, they will continue to cover travel insurance for individuals without impacts. Starting July 1, insurers will adjust the rates for travel safety insurance, benefiting those who enroll early. Companies like Cathay Century Insurance and Taiwan Fire & Marine Insurance assure the public that they will continue to cover travel insurance under an orange alert without influence. Specific considerations will be made for regions under alerts during policy issuance, and additional scrutiny on coverage limits is applied. Insurers emphasize limitations on overlapping policies for online enrollees. Age restrictions also apply to elderly travelers, even though some companies, like Taiwan Fire & Marine, extend coverage up to 100 years with reduced sums insured for those aged 85 to 100.
