Osteoporosis Leads to Fractures! Doctors Warn: Treatment Difficulties When Facing Certain Situations

Reported 12 months ago

As seniors age, they are more prone to bone loss and may experience vertebral compression fractures due to osteoporosis from falls or lifting heavy objects. While current medical treatments involve injecting bone cement to alleviate the pain of these fractures, patients with a history of sciatica, bone spurs, or previous spinal surgery with steel implants may face challenges in the treatment process. Therefore, orthopedic doctors emphasize the importance of bone density and fall prevention, especially for elderly individuals, and caution against rushing into bone cement injections without careful evaluation by a physician. Dr. Rong Zhi-Xiong from Dachien Medical Center highlights the significance of early bone health maintenance to prevent fractures and advises adopting a healthy lifestyle, adequate calcium and protein intake, sun exposure for vitamin D3, regular exercise, weight management, and muscle strength improvement to ensure bone density and overall skeletal health from a young age.
