On July 3, 2024, a Vietnamese migrant worker named Ali, who had been missing in Taiwan for nearly 8 years, was arrested by police in Pingtung County, only to escape from the police station and evade capture for almost half a month before being apprehended in Kaohsiung. He was found to be involved in fraud and was sentenced to 2 months in prison for escaping, with the option to pay a fine. The police negligence in his initial escape was also investigated by authorities. Ali's case highlights issues regarding foreign national management and law enforcement in Taiwan.
