A stampede occurred during a Hindu religious event in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, resulting in over 100 deaths. The incident took place in a village in the Hathras district, approximately 200 kilometers southeast of New Delhi, where a large gathering of devotees led by a local Hindu leader turned into a chaotic situation. Initially estimated by the Indian police to have claimed about 60 lives, the death toll continued to rise, reaching 107 as reported by 'Today India' news channel. Stampedes are not uncommon in India during religious events, often causing significant casualties in the country with a population of over 1.3 billion people. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has ordered an investigation into the cause of the accident.
