According to statistics, as of June 23, 2024, there are 12 local governments in Japan that have decided to implement accommodation tax, with over 30 others considering following suit to tackle the issues of 'overtourism' caused by the rapid growth of tourism. These local governments are aiming to address the increasing impact of 'overtourism' on local residents' lives by using the revenue from the accommodation tax as a response measure.
