The Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the Ministry of Labor, Zou Zi-Lian, stated that in recent years, the number of deaths due to work has been consistently over 200, with around 300 deaths in 2023 alone. To address the high number of work-related fatalities, the Ministry of Labor plans to increase penalties under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, particularly targeting the construction industry where over half of the deaths occur. The Ministry aims to prevent work accidents at their source by strengthening penalties and responsibilities for employers and contractors.
