Over 400 People Seek Medical Treatment This Month! Summer Heat Increases Risk of Heat-Related Injuries, Doctors Recommend 3 Prevention Tips

Reported 11 months ago

With the early onset of high temperatures this year, various regions in Taiwan are already experiencing soaring temperatures even before July. Due to the common summer issue of heat-related injuries, people need to be extra vigilant. Ministry of Health and Welfare's latest data shows that as of June 23, 413 individuals have sought medical help due to heat-related injuries. Doctors emphasize the importance of proper hydration as dehydration or electrolyte imbalance can easily lead to heat injuries, affecting organ functions. The common heat-related injuries include heat cramps, fainting, edema, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke, with heat exhaustion and heatstroke being the most severe and risky. To prevent heat injuries, people are advised to stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay alert by wearing light and breathable clothing, consuming adequate water, adjusting activities according to the heat, and being mindful of physical conditions, particularly for outdoor workers, athletes, infants, and elderly individuals. Taking precautions and staying hydrated can help reduce the risk of heat-related injuries under Taiwan's subtropical and humid climate where the body struggles to regulate high temperatures.
