After the strong earthquake in Hualien that severely affected local tourism, there was a significant decrease in hotel bookings and tourist crowds, prompting the Ministry of Transportation to introduce housing subsidies to stimulate tourism. With the Dragon Boat Festival holiday being the first continuous holiday after the earthquake, a noticeable increase in tourists was observed, with tourists from central Taiwan even chartering buses to travel around half of Taiwan to visit Hualien. Businesses are seeing two to three times more visitors compared to the months of April and May. This increase in footfall has uplifted local spirits and provided a much-needed morale boost for the tourism industry in Hualien.
