On June 20, 2024, Chuan Chih-Yuan, known as the 'Father of Table Tennis' in Taiwan, is set to compete in his 6th Olympic Games, but this time only in the team event as his apprentice, Kao Cheng-Ray, has a higher world ranking for singles. Despite missing out on the singles event, Chuan remains composed, acknowledging their mentor-student relationship by saying 'Whether he plays or I play, it's the same.' Chuan started his Olympic journey in Athens 2004 and has not missed a Games since, achieving a 4th place in London 2012. While he may not participate in singles this time, Chuan is fully focused on the team event and believes in Cheng-Ray's potential to surpass him in the future.
