In the Olympic track and field preliminary trials held in Eugene, Oregon on June 23, the highlight was the men's 100m sprint. Led by sprinter Noah Lyles, the race featured the fastest male athletes from around the world all vying for a chance to represent the USA in the Paris Olympics. The top five runners finished in under 10 seconds, with even the last one achieving a remarkable time of 10.22 seconds, resembling a preview of the actual Olympic competition. Lyles, who won the bronze in the 200m at the Tokyo Olympics, secured the gold with a time of 9.78, earning a ticket to Paris along with Kenny Bednarek and Fred Kerley who finished second and third. Christian Coleman, who missed the Tokyo Olympics due to a doping ban, fell short of qualification by 0.05 seconds. With high expectations, Lyles aims for his first Olympic gold in Paris, competing in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay events.
