Parliament Reform Reconsideration to be Voted on Today, Results Expected by Noon

Reported 8 months ago

The Legislative Yuan previously passed the Five Acts of Parliament Reform, but the Executive Yuan deemed the related clauses impractical and possibly unconstitutional, especially new or amended articles regarding the exercise of legislative powers and the Criminal Code. A reconsideration will be voted on 21st with the blue and white camps indicating they will reject it and the green camp supporting it. The result is expected around noon. Various fines for disregarding parliament and the ability to request information from government agencies were among the passed articles. The Executive Yuan submitted the reconsideration due to impracticality, which was approved by President Lai Ching-te. The Nationalist Party Secretary-General expressed confidence in no defections, while the People's Party unanimously supports the Parliament Reform Bill and plans to reject the reconsideration. The Democratic Progressive Party is prepared to submit a constitutional interpretation when necessary. The voting process is set to start after addressing other agenda items, with the final outcome expected before 12:30 p.m.
