Passengers Describe Horror of Train Derailment After Collision with Falling Rocks on New Taroko Express: 'Whole Body Was Thrown'

Taiwan Railways Train No. 229, a New Taroko Express train, derailed after colliding with falling rocks at the Qingshui Tunnel in Hualien on the evening of June 21. The incident left a total of 15 people, including the driver, injured. Passengers recalled the terrifying 2-minute experience where the train braked suddenly, violently shook, and they were thrown around before the train continuously grazed the tunnel wall. The injured were treated at various hospitals, and the train operations were reorganized to transport passengers to their destinations.
