Pay Raises for Workers in 21 States

Reported 3 days ago

As of January 1, 2025, hourly minimum wages have increased in 21 states, benefiting over 9.2 million workers and totaling an increase of $5.7 billion in earnings. The minimum wage hikes, which vary from 18 cents to $1.75, are part of ongoing efforts to match rising living costs. Some cities have also raised their minimum wages beyond state levels. This increase comes amid a broader call for a federal minimum wage of $17, as the current federal minimum remains unchanged at $7.25 since 2009. Research shows that while some businesses claim job losses due to wage hikes, many independent businesses manage to thrive, significantly benefitting workers long-term.
