According to the statistics from the Centers for Disease Control, the summer infectious disease 'chigger mites' is approaching its peak period in Taiwan, with cases reported in all counties and cities, even on outlying islands. Besides the highest prevalence in the Hualien-Taitung area, Kinmen has also seen seven cases, showing an overall increase compared to last year. These tiny chigger mites like to hide in grass, and their bites can cause redness, swelling, ulcers, and scabbing on the skin, accompanied by symptoms like fever and headache, with a high mortality rate reaching 60%. The public is reminded to take preventive measures.
