Peak Season Shines for MediaTek and TSMC Warrants

On July 8, 2024, reports surfaced in the market that MediaTek is designing Arm-based chips for Microsoft's AI PC, set to be launched by the end of next year, potentially allowing MediaTek to enter the AI PC domain from AI smartphones. TSMC also saw a 3.9% quarter-on-quarter revenue increase in Q2. Analysts noted that with terminal inventory adjustments coming to an end, TSMC's capacity utilization rate is expected to rise to 75% in the second half of the year, estimating an annual EPS of 4.3 yuan. MediaTek, known for its involvement in laptops focusing on Chromebooks, is now making a move into the AI PC era. Microsoft's strategy of optimizing Windows with Arm chips appears to target Apple's laptop products, with MediaTek's PC chips expected to be released by the end of 2025. TSMC's upcoming high-end chip, Dimensity 9400, is expected to outperform the current flagship Dimensity 9300, offering improved performance due to TSMC's 3nm process. TSMC's revenue for June was 17.548 billion yuan, down 10% month-on-month and 7.9% year-on-year, aligning with market expectations. Semiconductor output is expected to increase by 4% to 6% this year, and TSMC's operations are forecasted to perform better in the second half of the year compared to the first half.
