On June 20, 2024, the Taichung Police Bureau launched a pedestrian safety law enforcement campaign, with increased vigilance at intersections starting from June 24. The Ministry of Transportation's statistics for the first quarter of 113 showed an increase in pedestrian accidents and fatalities compared to the same period last year, with most fatalities involving elderly pedestrians. To maintain pedestrian safety, the Taichung Police Bureau will conduct a special enforcement operation from June 24 to July 23, focusing on violations such as running red lights, failure to yield to pedestrians, and jaywalking. Both drivers and pedestrians are urged to follow traffic rules, with offenders facing fines and penalties. The public is encouraged to participate in ensuring pedestrian safety by wearing bright clothing and staying alert when crossing intersections.
