Penalty of 276,000 for Unlicensed B&B in Kenting, Owner of 10 Rooms Dodges Fines, Officials Freeze Account and Chase Arrears

Reported 8 months ago

A B&B operator in Nanwan, Pingtung County, was fined 276,000 for having 14 unregistered guest rooms and was ordered to cease operations. However, the operator did not pay the fine and was found to own 10 small suites in Hengchun and Nanwan. The county's enforcement agency seized and froze the operator's bank account and successfully recovered the fines. To protect national debts, the agency first sealed some of the operator's small suites and froze their bank account. The county government confirmed that the operator was responsible for the B&B during the inspection period and the fine was not erroneous. The county recovered 276,000 in fines for operating an unlicensed B&B, avoiding the need to post seals at the Kenting suites and ensure tourism quality by cracking down on unlicensed B&Bs as part of the 'Sleep Securely, Operate Out-of-license Accommodation-OUT' project.
