On July 3, 2024, at 1:24 am, the Penghu-registered fishing boat 'Da Jin Man 88' was suspected of being detained by a Chinese Coast Guard vessel for inspection. The Mainland Affairs Council stated that this case may involve a violation of Mainland China's off-season fishing regulations and will seek clarification from the Mainland as soon as possible to explain the circumstances of the incident and the reasons for the detention and inspection, in order to dispel unnecessary speculation. The council hopes that the relevant Mainland China authorities will release the crew and ship promptly after clarifying the reasons, ensuring the safety of personnel. The incident occurred in China's territorial waters near Kinmen. Residents of Kinmen revealed that due to sensitive cross-strait relations, especially during the off-season, fishing activities are strictly monitored, with most fishermen avoiding crossing boundaries to prevent incidents like this. The possibility arises from the fishing boat's crew's unfamiliarity with the situation, leading to its detention by the Chinese Coast Guard.
