On July 4, 2024, the Penghu fishing boat 'Da Jin Man 88' was detained in Quanzhou for fishing during a fishing ban period, leading to its involvement in mainland China's criminal law and facing potential punishment of up to 3 years imprisonment or a fine of approximately over 220,000 NTD. However, Penghu fishermen point out that while their fishing boat was seized by mainland Chinese maritime police, they continue to turn a blind eye to their own mainland-registered fishing boats going out to sea and engaging in illegal fishing.
