The Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) has sent a letter to the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) requesting China to clarify the reasons for the detention of the Penghu-registered fishing boat 'Da Jinman 88' and to release the boat promptly while ensuring the safety of the crew. The fishing boat was forcibly boarded and detained by Chinese coast guard last night while operating in the waters near Kinmen, then taken to Fujian. In response to protests from the Taiwan government, the Chinese coast guard claimed the Taiwan boat was suspected of illegal fishing and that they were warned and driven away due to alleged interference with law enforcement. MAC stated they will seek explanation from China through official channels and hope for the timely release and safety of the crew.
