On July 3, 2024, a fishing boat from Penghu, the 'Da Jin Man 88,' was forcibly boarded and detained by the Chinese coast guard in the waters northeast of Kinmen. The fishing boat and crew are still being held by the Chinese authorities. The Taiwan Coast Guard held a press conference demanding explanations from China and the prompt release of the boat and crew. In response, China's Taiwan Affairs Office stated that the fishing boat violated regulations by fishing during the closed season, emphasizing that the Chinese coast guard was enforcing the law to maintain order in fishing activities and protect marine resources and ecological environment in the area.
