On July 2, 2024, a Chinese patrol ship forcibly boarded and took away a fishing boat from Penghu while it was operating outside Kinmen. The captain and five foreign fishermen were taken to Weitou Port in Fujian, China. Despite the Coast Guard's efforts to intercept with three vessels, they were unsuccessful. Authorities are coordinating through cross-strait channels to demand the release of the fishing boat and crew. The incident occurred during China's fishing ban season, making fishing activities more sensitive, and local residents are cautious to avoid similar incidents during this period.
