On July 3, 2024, at 1:35 am, the Penghu-registered fishing boat 'Da Jin Man 88' was forcibly inspected and seized by the Chinese Mainland Coast Guard. Official negotiations have not yet yielded further information. The family of Captain Hong has entrusted the Chairman of the Penghu Cross-Strait Exchange Association, Mr. Lin Bingkun, to negotiate with the Mainland. The boat was taken by the Mainland Coast Guard to the Weitou Military Port in Fujian. Concerns have been raised regarding the livelihood and safety of fishermen due to the political tensions between the two sides, with calls for the government to take action to protect the rights of Taiwanese fishermen.
