On July 2, 2024, the Penghu-registered fishing boat 'Da Jin Man 88' was forcefully taken back to China by a Chinese coast guard ship while operating in waters off Kinmen. Taipei Mayor Jiang Wan-An emphasized the government's top priority is to ensure the safety of fishermen. The Coast Guard Administration of the Ocean Affairs Council stated that the fishing boat was detained by the Chinese coast guard ship and efforts for coordination through cross-strait channels by the Mainland Affairs Council and the Fisheries Agency are underway. Mayor Jiang Wan-An mentioned that the government's primary concern is the safety of fishermen during an event this morning and noted that the Coast Guard Administration will hold a press conference at 10 o'clock for detailed explanations.
