On July 3, 2024, a fishing boat from Penghu was inspected and detained by Chinese coast guard yesterday evening, causing high attention across the strait. The fishing boat 'Taijinman 88', registered in Penghu, was detained by Chinese coast guard in waters outside Jinjiang, Fujian. Despite Taiwan's Coast Guard promptly responding and demanding the return of the boat and its 5 crew members, two of whom are Taiwanese, the boat and crew were still taken away. The Executive Yuan and Mainland Affairs Council both made statements urging China to release the Taiwanese boat and ensure the safety of the crew. The incident occurred in Chinese jurisdictional waters during China's fishing ban period, and Taiwan reminded fishermen to be alert and not violate China's regulations, while also calling for China to release the boat soon for the safety of the crew.
