On the evening of June 16, a volunteer soldier surnamed Ou serving on the ROC Navy's Ming Chuan-class patrol vessel jumped overboard during a surveillance mission, wearing a life jacket, and swam safely ashore on his own. This marks the first personnel overboard incident on Taiwan's Perry-class patrol vessels. Minister of National Defense Chiu Kuo-cheng responded to inquiries in the Legislative Yuan regarding the incident, noting that the sailor, aged 24 and serving since 2019, has been under supervision for minor personal issues. The Ming Chuan-class vessels were purchased from the US, with the Ming Chuan (PFG 1112) formally commissioned on November 8, 2018, in Zuoying. These vessels serve as a reference for Taiwan's successful Cheng Kung-class frigates, with similarities in appearance and armament.
