In Kaohsiung, a teenager surnamed Hou took his pet tortoise for treatment at a vet's, but was criticized for the tortoise being too thin and critically ill. Hou, feeling the vet's attitude was poor, posted on social media criticizing the vet for lacking professionalism, only to be sued for over NT$40,000 in damages. The court ruled in Hou’s favor, stating his comments were within the bounds of freedom of speech and did not constitute defamation. The vet's remarks during the consultation deemed inappropriate by the court, leading to the dismissal of the lawsuit.
