The Philippines is cracking down on around 250 to 300 illegal offshore gambling firms, primarily run by Chinese companies, as concerns about their links to criminal syndicates grow. The country's gaming regulator, PAGCOR, along with the police, is conducting raids to shut down these unlicensed operators. The crackdown follows reports of POGO-related crimes such as human trafficking, torture, kidnapping, and scams. The government is considering banning the industry, which currently generates significant revenue in fees and taxes.
