Pingtung BBQ Restaurant Complained Over 40 Times Within Half a Year for Strong Fume Pollution, Neighbors Distressed

Reported about 1 year ago

A barbecue restaurant on Zhongshan Road in Pingtung City, which opened earlier this year, has received over 40 complaints from nearby residents due to strong fume odor issues. Despite installing static electric fume treatment equipment on the second floor to collect fumes, the problem persists causing distress to residents who have to keep doors and windows shut during meal times. The Environmental Protection Bureau conducted tests in April which were non-compliant, leading to fines and a deadline for improvement, with subsequent inspections showing pollution exceeding standards by over 20 times. The restaurant faces possible closure if improvements are not made by the end of June, with fines totaling NT$1.5 million due to non-compliance.
