A 60-year-old male correctional officer surnamed Zhong from Pingtung Prison passed away after a dispute with an inmate on June 15th. The officer experienced discomfort, was sent to the hospital, and unfortunately did not survive after two days of rescue efforts. His family held a funeral today, attended by the Director-General of the Correctional Agency. The incident occurred when the officer attempted to calm an out-of-control inmate who kicked a door, which led to the officer's sudden illness and subsequent passing. The Correctional Agency emphasized care for staff as a top priority and vowed to enhance security measures and improve staff benefits to ensure the safety of all employees.
